M.D., M.P.H., Tufts University
B.A., Washington University in St. Louis
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Colin spent most of his early years in the suburbs of Connecticut. It was there that he developed a passion for sports, particularly soccer and tennis. As an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis, he continued to pursue soccer as starting goalkeeper while studying Biology and Spanish. As a med student at Tufts, Colin completed his MPH and put his Spanish to use in Peru as a Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholar (where he actually shared an apartment with fellow UCLA Med-Peds resident Catherine Hooper!). Colin is an avid fan of music of all sorts; he has studied piano and even writes a hip-hop verse here and there. He's currently saving up his intern salary for a harmonica, which he promises to practice only when roommate Weiyi Tan is at the hospital. Now that he's in LA, he's really looking forward to doing all the above – when he's not at the hospital or in clinic!
Career Plans:
I plan to continue my work in Global Health research and programming while remaining active in clinical Med-Peds and medical education in the States.
Why UCLA?
At UCLA Med-Peds, I knew I would receive training from top-notch Medicine and Pediatrics departments. I would have the opportunity to rotate through numerous hospitals with varying patient populations with a wide range of pathology, while at the same time receiving strong teaching in primary care. But in the end, it was the people in these environments that drew me to UCLA Med-Peds. My resident colleagues in the categorical and combined programs are highly capable and hard-working yet relaxed and approachable; the same goes for the faculty. Within the Med-Peds program, there is a closeness between the faculty and the residents, all of whom are very active in the program and supportive of each other. Finally, Los Angeles is city that offers variety like few others, and as a very active person I find it a great place to be outdoors year-round.
