What are we about?

The purpose of the UCLA Medicine-Pediatrics Interest Group (MPIG) is to provide guidance and support for the growing number of students interested in a combined Medicine-Pediatrics residency. MPIG is the only group on the UCLA campus that gives students access to information about a Med-Peds residency program and puts them in touch with physicians in specific fields like transitional care. With more patients with congenital conditions surviving long into adulthood, there is increased demand for physicians who can both treat these patients in their adulthood, there is increased demand for physicians who can both treat these patients in their childhood as well as provide them with the unique care they need many years later. MPIG provides students with the opportunity to learn more about career options in this field, and allows them to make connections with current residents and physicians at UCLA. In addition to informal lunch meetings whereby students can hear faculty opinions and ask questions, shadowing opportunities are set up such that students can experience life as a Med-Peds physician, attend teaching rounds, and interact with the patient population.

Mentorship Mixers

Our MPIG Mentorship Program hosts Mentorship Mixers so our UCLA Medical Students who are Med-Peds bound can meet with awesome mentors and share their stories about residency life, why they chose Med-Peds over other disciplines, as well as answer other pondering questions that you may have. This unique opportunity gives the student to socialize, network and attain invaluable information for their impending career. Here are some pictures from our most recent mixer.
