Rodney Tripplett

I am a graduate student at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) in the Masters of Public Health program. My concentration is Community Health Sciences, with a research focus in childhood chronic diseases such as asthma and obesity. I am currently the School Programs Intern at the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC). In this position, I work closely with Chicago Public Schools Office of Student Health and Wellness, schools and community organizations to provide resources for healthy activities in classrooms and schools.

In addition to this, I am working on my Master’s capstone project, which is looking at the dispersion of school wellness initiatives across Chicago’s neighborhoods (specifically looking at ethnicity/race and income demographics). I plan to graduate with my Masters in Public Health from UIC in May 2013. In September 2013, I plan to return to UCLA at the School of Nursing for the Masters Entry Clinical Nurse program. My career goal is to be family nurse practitioner in underserved Los Angeles communities. I believe that having a public health background will allow me to understand the social determinants of health for my patients, which will ultimately allow me to provide better treatment.
